Workshop with the World Bank
On 2 May 2017, Mr. Robert Fox, Chairman of the EABC Chair of ICT Working Group, Mr. Chaladbhum Temkasem, EABC Policy Manager, Ms. Lena Friedrich, EABC Intern and other foreign communities attended the workshop with the World Bank. Participants from the World Bank were Mr. Shabih A. Mohib, Program Leader, Equitable Growth, Finance & Institutions, South East Asia Country Management Unit, Dr. Kiatipong Ariyapruchya, Senior Economist, Dr. Thanapat Reungsri, Ms. Angkanee Lungpenthong, Program Assistant, and senior economist specialized in ICT sector.
One of the main issues reviewed was the need to solve the Work Permit and VISA issues in order to strengthen the foreign investment in Thailand. With a view to the future, it was further discussed that, to achieve competitiveness and to exploit the emerging opportunities in the economies in Southeast Asia, Thailand must undergo an economic transformation with governmental guidance. Concerning Doing Business in Thailand, an improvement of skill transfer would in the long run most likely simplify to attract and maintain foreign talents in Thailand and therefore contribute to encourage innovation. The EABC was asked to provide more recommendations to improve Thailand’s competitiveness in the next meeting.
